President: Stephanie Shipman
tephanie has been in the field of Learning and Development her entire career. She loves that what she does is an opportunity for her to live her values. She enjoys being of service to others and helping them to develop the skills and abilities they need to be an effective contributor for the organization. She has also relished in projects where systems and processes could be examined and improved to gain efficiencies. Her collection of experiences with outstanding organizations in technology, real estate, conservation, media and now finance have provided her with broad experience. She gained extensive experience designing, developing, and delivering a variety of employee development solutions that span the employee lifecycle, from on-boarding new employees to transitioning employees to new opportunities.
Northern Virginia was her home for over 20 years. Recently, she and her husband returned to Hampton Roads where they were both raised. With two young children, they have settled in Smithfield, VA. She is a Senior Professional Development Specialist for PRA Group in Norfolk.
She was first introduced to ISPI in 1993. It is the greatest professional gift she ever received. She is also a Past President of The Potomac Chapter.
President-Elect: Sazara Johnson
Sazara R. Johnson is the creator of SEEN vs. SHADOW™ workplace initiative that assists business professionals with maneuvering games of business politics with integrity. Also, she is an ITIL- and Microsoft Office-certified Chief Director at the information technology training and crisis detection company, SaTechRo. As an advisor and program contributor to large and small organizations, Sazara serves banking, media, telecommunications, cyber security, national security, law practice, law enforcement, public safety, transportation, academia, sports, fashion, household product manufacturing, tourism, and food industries. From The George Washington University, Sazara holds a master's degree in educational technology leadership, human development, and education. Her background is in IT service management, television and media campaigns, crisis management, educational technology, instructional design, and training.
Past President: Keith Spranger
Keith Spranger provides Project Management and Performance Improvement courseware and organizational development content that refocuses teams and individuals on the value of constructive conflict management and project success. He does this as an Instructional Designer with over 15 years' experience at Newport News Shipbuilding, and independently through StepOne Consulting, LLC. With a servant's heart, Keith's passion is creating, implementing, and measuring customer improvement opportunities.
His professional certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Performance Technologist (CPT), and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training. Prior to his professional career, Keith served for 6 years as an aircraft maintenance specialist in the U.S. Air Force. He also offers his clients over 14 years of computer-assisted design (CAD, AUTOCAD, CATIA) experience in the field of construction and lean manufacturing.
Treasurer/Secretary: Marcia Downing
Marcia Stewart-Downing is a Senior Instructional Designer with Newport News Shipbuilding. She has the opportunity to manage projects for career, professional, and organizational development, engagement, and assessments for process improvement. Additional professional experience has been with Non-Profit organizations providing expertise for organizational development, business acumen and as an adjunct faculty member with several Colleges and Universities.
Director of Programs: Scott Weersing
Scott Weersing serves as Director, Learning Analytics for GP Strategies where he partners with clients to show the value and impact of learning interventions on outcomes. He has worked with a variety of clients and industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, insurance, and call centers, to link interventions to business metrics. Scott received an ISPI Award of Excellence in 2013 for Outstanding Human Performance Intervention.
Director of Membership: Kelly Cross
Kelly Cross is a Performance Analyst for the U.S. Coast Guard Force Readiness Command at Coast Guard Base Portsmouth. He has over 25 years’ experience in human performance improvement specializing in performance consulting and project management. As an ISPI member since 1995, he has presided over regional chapters in Hampton Roads, Virginia (2012-13) and Albuquerque, New Mexico (1997-98). Kelly is a two-time ISPI Award of Excellence winner for his work with the Coast Guard (2019) and the Indian Health Service (1996). He is a graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and pursued a Master of Arts in Multimedia Technologies and Distance Learning at the University of New Mexico. He resides in Hampton, Virginia where he enjoys beach-combing, photography, and cooking.
Director of Outreach: Bill Piersol
Bill has been a member of HR ISPI since 2005, serving in various positions during that time. He is currently the employee resources and organizational development manager for Al-Anon. Prior to that, he was supporting the Navy as a Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education lead for the Maritime Operations Center development initiative. Other jobs included being the program manager for Robot Venture, an economic development initiative to further develop Hampton Roads as a nexus for unmanned systems integration. Bill has a MS in Instructional and Performance Technology from Boise State University.
